NFLPA Executive Director De Maurice Smith was on the “MIKE and MIKE SHOW” on ESPN Radio this morning to talk about Judge Susan Nelson’s ruling yesterday.
De Smith attacked the NFL during the interview going as far as saying,
“Yesterday a court ruled that the league (NFL) broke the law.”
After Smith finished the interview on “THE MIKE AND MIKE” they were joined by NFL executive Jeff Pash VP of labor, who responded to the comments by De Smith,
“I think it’s quite a stretch to say that the Judge ruled we broke the law…we intend to comply with court orders”
Pash made it clear that the NFL owners have full intentions to appeal the decision.
However during the De Smith interview Smith accused the NFL of not complying with the ruling.
“We heard from one team that as players walked in the door they were informed that the team told their strength and conditioning coaches to have the day off.”
This is not entirely unusual since Judge Susan Nelson did clarify that she would decide Tuesday if she will grant the owners a ‘stay’ (The act of temporarily stopping a judicial proceeding through the order of a court.)
NFL executive Greg Aiello “If a player comes to the facility, he will be treated courteously and with respect,” since the NFL must comply with the ruling.
However NFL.com Insider Jason La Canfora is reporting that an unnamed NFL executive said, “ask them to wait until that ruling (the stay),” before the players may resume regular work day routines such as working out.
The ruling for NFL owners to be granted a ‘stay’ will be decided today by Judge Susan Nelson.
