On March 3rd three day’s away NFL owners will opt out the current CBA they agreed to two years ago and LOCKOUT NFL players.
That’s right NFL Owners want out of the current deal the one they agreed to, right? So what changed?
Simple the Economy changed. What cost went up? Oil, travel cost and day to day energy cost? Well honestly yes. You could make an argument for that but not anything that would need that drastic a change as opting out of the current CBA.
Property value decreased?
Well not really most owners do not own their own stadium but that is what the owners claim.
Well, who owns the stadium? Well, YOU do!
As you can see from the link most stadiums are paid with a “public contributions”, or as we like to call them Tax dollars. So what are the owners losing money on media revenue?
No they are not going to lose any money to media revenue.
“We pay for the NBA and NFL networks through television content providers; however, if there are lockouts we will be paying for useless channels as the TV companies must still pay the league under their contracts.” But the players will not be paid because they are locked out.
So owners like Jerry Jones who to is driving the Lockout because if anyone did not get tax money to build a stadium it would be Texas right? No not really.
"Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his partners are responsible for $675 million of the $1.15 billion Cowboys Stadium (taxpayers kicked in $325 million and the NFL pitched in $150 million).” What!
But when asked if he thought a lockout would be disastrous for the game, Jerry
Jones replied, “No. I do not.” Jerry must have some deep pockets but why did he need public dollars and then says a Lockout will not be disastrous? "I think that the Cowboys are not going to correct certain items and assume the risk. This is not a good situation!" wrote City Building Official Ed Dryden So Just maybe owners like Jerry Jones are the wrong ones to ask if the Lock Out would be disastrous. If you cannot use good sound judgment on safe seating what kind of judgment will you use on canceling a season of NFL football.
"The biggest change in the NFL economics over the last 15 years is the investment
in the stadiums,” Roger Goodell said. “The clubs are making more and more cognizant investments in those stadiums. In addition, they have to maintain those stadiums in many cases. That’s a financial obligation that they didn’t have. And then the third, which is starting to hit, is they have to upgrade those stadiums with capital expenditures, which is an extraordinary amount of money. Those are expenses that we’ve never had before.”
Wait a second the owners maintain the stadium? As a Chicago Bears fan I find this hard to believe since the Soldier Field Sod is a bigger story then the Bears themselves. The reason I have to laugh is the Chicago Park District pays for up keep of Solider Field not the Bears owners the McCaskey’s.
So who is driving these owners to build these stadiums and invest so much more money?
THE OWNERS that is who! Because they want more revenue for them and their greedy business partners and drive up the cost of tickets, parking, and the now normal $9.00 beer.
So the economy tanks and the owners cry poor due to the stadiums that they wanted so why not open the books and prove it.
Simple they will not open the books because of greed. Since the owners want a bigger cut of the greedy deal they already agreed to the same greed that put extra seats in the new Cowboys Stadium during the Superbowl that had to be closed due to safety.
Until the owners are willing to meet the NFLPA’s request I say support the players and ask the owners to open the books and prove they are going poor.
